Our July 2012 Champion of Health is the beautiful working Doberman Pinscher, “Laura,” Ch. Foxhall’s The First Lady IPO3 ROM. Laura holds the distinction of being the first female Doberman to earn both an AKC Championship and an IPO3 (formerly Schutzhund III). Only 7 other Dobermans have ever achieved this distinction, a list which includes both her sire and paternal grandsire. Laura is bred and owned by Lynn Eggers, and was trained and trialed for her Schutzhund titles by her co-owners Jill & Art Graves. She finished her AKC Championship with 3 majors, group placements, and was Reserve Winner’s Bitch at the 2006 DPCA National/Regional show at just 9 months of age. In 2008, she returned to win an Award of Merit. Bred once, Laura produced an all-champion litter of six. Laura’s health screening includes normal CERF eye exams, normal OFA elbows, OFA good hips, vWD DNA testing, multiple normal thyroid evaluations, and multiple normal cardiac evaluations via echocardiogram. Laura also has DNA banked for future health research in the CHIC DNA Repository. All her health testing has earned her the CHIC designation for health screening in accordance with parent club recommendations. Her sire and dam were also CHIC dogs.
Note – the OFA “Champion of Health” is not an official title issued by the OFA, AKC, or other registry. The “Champion of Health” is a monthly website feature that celebrates dogs that have achieved significant accomplishments, whether in the ring, field, performance events, as working dogs, or as producers, AND that have the full complement of breed appropriate health screening. If you have a dog that you believe meets the criteria that you would like to submit for consideration, please submit this application form to the OFA.
